The Carlton Hotel was once world renowned, a rich symbol for Johannesburg. International five star rating with 600 rooms. As the pictures show above its now all barricaded up. In 1997 it closed its doors due to crime in the CBS area.Attacks were common and it just became just too dangerous for visitors as well as staff.

The Johannesburg Sun was a luxurious five star hotel. Sol Kerzners dream accommodation in the center of Johannesburg CBD. Now it stands desolate and empty, yet another victim of democratic South Africa. To the right of the Sun hotel is the President hotel.
