Local residents increasingly are teaming up to repair their own roads because municipalities are either collapsing, have no engineering staff or have run out of money in spite of sky-high municipal taxes residents have to pay.

Desperate SA motorist are are taking to repairing the municipal roads themselves , even though people pay sky-high taxes to local municipalities, the roads are falling into dreadful and often dangerous disrepair. Motorist Gert van Schalkwyk who got a burst tyre from a huge hole on a busy street at Fourways, also repaired the road himself. The huge, waterfilled hole in Willian Nicol Drive was causing considerable problems for motorists for months. He finally got ‘the moer in’ , bought a bag of cement, brought some rocks and filled up the huge hole in the road himself. I Don”t know what these people are complaining about, they obviously have not been to Cape Town lately.
