Muizenberg bridge seems to draw truck and tourist buses like flies on on a hot summers day. Height restriction signs are well visible on the bridge and before the alternate road, yet these imbeciles insist on taking the bridge on. Luxury air conditioned buses are converted to open air on a regular basis.
The problem in South Africa is corruption. Fast tracking a identity document or buying a drivers license is common. Obviously these idiots that persist in wedging themselves under Muizenberg bridge must be illiterate as well. Not even two weeks ago a bus carrying German tourists had its roof removed, fortunately nobody was injured but how long before somebody gets killed?
And two weeks later this cement truck has a go at the bridge. This truck driver gave it his best shot because even with deflating the tires it was impossible to move.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackA couple of years ago a guy was killed when his banged his head on the bridge while standing upright on the back of a truck. A few months before that, a driver was killed when he drove into the bridge at speed and went flying through the windscreen.
Why can’t council not just extend a rope across the road with chains hanging down at the correct hight. I believe that this would be an excellent early warning system and although it may just take some paint of a truck or two. at least no lives will be lost.
